AFRICAN TRADITIONAL ARMIES AND MILITARY OUTFITS DO NOT NEED WRITTEN DOWN MINUTES TO MEET AND PLAN ;THEY PLAN IN ” ORAL ” MINUTES , SECONDS AND CODED LANGUAGE
With the ICC proceedings we have delved into Mungiki and Non -Kikuyu Military Outfits that rocked Kenya during the Post Election Violence.
Contrary to belief , we have stated that these warriors did not need technology or mobile phones (tough they used them) ,bows and arrows were enough.
The word that is ringing in the ICC is the word “Network” and “Organization”.
Now , the judges at the ICC are Westernized and when they hear such words they may be prone to believe that it means a body of people with a head office or meetings with minutes .Far from it.
Even though they may know that the tribal military units that were used in Kenya were underground hence difficult to know their form of organization, we suggest that these units used their age set systems and tribal unity.
For example during the hearings it was adduced that Kalenjin Youth could not fight because they undergo initiation during December ?
Yet the question rings is that all young men go for circumcision again ? That is a joke of a defence statement.
Those who were circumcised , of course rested but those who ahd already been circumcised were involved in the fighting.
In fact circumcision is a military rite in Africa , and is different from the Jewish circumcision which was Covenantal or a mark of identity .In African communities that practice it ,it is a mark of physical maturity.
This mark of maturity meant that you could get married but also participate in war.The Traditional ceremonies are elaborate with War songs and songs of Courage which are always used to cheer up the warriors.
So as long as Kenya recognizes Customary Laws as it does , it is recognizing traditional Armies because armies are part and parcel of the customary law.
So in Africa people learn from observation and orally and do not have to organize academically like those in the West.
And the African way of organization and meetings and planning are easier than the Western system that require papers sitting down , position of secretary etc.
This is why it was hard for people to know whether there were youth from both sides of the divide preparing for war. For in Africa we have invisible standing armies that only arises when they see it necessary.
In fact the Government did not just out law Mungiki it outlawed other Tribal or Inter-tribal military outfits rising in Kenya , in Gusii land , Coast Province and Mt Elgon Area.
These outfits arise when they see and feel that the Government does not belong to them and the more the Government ignores these militarized angry youth the more violet and aggressive Kenya will be hence destruction will be right at the door.
