A Kenyan Atheist Wonders Why The Church Loves The Return of Jesus
By Arthur Owiti
Kenya’s well seasoned journalist Philip Ochieng , has made an observation about the Church’s belief in the return of Jesus and how Con Artists cease that teaching for their own gain.
Of course he was responding to Harold Camping’s failed prophecy of May 21 and being an atheist himself , he was on cloud 9 while writing this interesting piece of literature .We would like to highlight his correct and incorrect assertions through a Bible believing Christian’s perspective.
WHERE MR PHILIP OCHIENG’ IS WRONG
His comments are in blue
- The doctrine that the universe will perish in one huge eschatological Bang is pagan and much older than Christianity.
It is true that the doctrine of apocalypse is entrenched in many pagan religions .However Paganism is not older than Christianity because Christianity did not begin in the New Testament times it began in the Garden of Eden.
John 1 is clear that Jesus Christ, from whom we get the word Christianity, was with God the Father at the creation of the World and so was the Holy Spirit. So Christianity is older than Pagan Religions.
Before the Law or Old Testament Rules were written, Jacob prophesied that out of the tribe of Judah there would arise a Law giver , a King . The Law sets out the fact that God will save those who listen to the Prophet who shall come from him.
When Jesus came he declared that he only came to fulfill the Law but not to destroy it. He also came as the King of the Jews and was from the Kingly line of David of the tribe of Judah. Therefore ,Christianity is built on the Old Testament preaching a New Testament. It is not that new in terms of age but New in terms of fulfillment.
2.Jesus asserts that some of his disciples will still be alive when he returns. The controversy raised by this statement has never been resolved.
This controversy has been resolved by John seeing Jesus coming in his kingdom while writing the book of Revelation.
In John 21 , Jesus mentioned how John would not die but see him in his coming. The Disciples wondered why but Jesus did not elaborate further.
Indeed it happened for it is only John the Apostle that saw the Risen Jesus in all his Glory in the visions he had at Patmos. So dreadful was the encounter ,John fell on his face .This was not the same Risen Jesus he and the other disciples saw at the lake in John 21 .
3. It is that Jesus never made that statement.
Now Mr Ochieng puts out three possibilities to resolve the “crisis” of Jesus saying that some of the disciples will not die without seeing him come in his kingdom.
He claims either a mistranslation or a true statement that became false by not being fulfilled or a malicious addition by the Catholic church.
He picks a malicious addition , which is not entirely correct .Jesus made the statement and John the Apostle did see him in his visions as he wrote about in Revelation.
The Catholic Church employed a false manuscript from Alexandria to write its bible .It is only the King James Bible that employs the scripts from Antioch , that has the right New Testament scriptures. The other English bibles are false as they use the adulterated Alexandrian Text.
It is wrong to claim that Jesus never made that statement and that is an attempt to discredit the written scriptures hence conclude with a fatal lie that the Bible is not 100% truth.
The KJV English Bible is 100% Truth from Genesis to Revelation because God promised to preserve his word for all generations to know him. That preservation happened to be in the King James Version .
WHERE MR. PHILIP OCHIENG IS RIGHT
- Because the Second Coming “is nigh”, Jehovah’s Witnesses and others openly preach that the “Anti-Christ” be killed violently. And who is the “Anti-Christ”? The answer — the non-Caucasian, the feminist, the pacifist, the homosexual, the “communist”, the Marxist, the working class, the Muslim, the Arab, the Palestinian, the Iranian, the Iraqi, the Afghan, the North Korean
Of Course the Bible is clear that the Antichrist will be destroyed by Jesus Christ in the lake of fire . Of course the Bible says that Jesus will order all those who followed the Antichrist to suffer eternal punishment.
However it is not for Christians to kill others because they do things or believe in Antichrist religions and ways.
Yet the Antichrist Doctrine is used to kill others in the name of setting up God’s kingdom on earth. The Roman Catholic church called Protestants antichrists –that is why it was so easy to kill them.
In these last days Evangelicals are being tempted to order the killing of Muslims and Communists, Abortionist, Feminists and Gays by making laws and wars against them in the name of killing the Antichrist.
On the other side Muslims are taught that Christians and Jews and Pagans should be done away with as stated in Sura 9 of the Koran .
NO. Jesus and his angels will do the killing business of his enemies because only he is Holy without sin , to execute judgment against those who reject him.
Before that time we cannot execute judgment by killing unbelievers because we have not been required to do so at this time before his coming.
2.Why do so many of you continue to give credit to quacks and con men like America’s Harold Camping? And why does the Church consistently refuse to distance itself from this crime?
The question he has asked is genuine and the answer is not that the church gives credit to con men because Jesus foretold that they would come. Scriptures have to be fulfilled .
People like Harold Camping are fulfilling scriptures as those who will say Jesus is here or he is in the closet. Jesus said such people will come and he said that we should not follow them.
Why the Church will always be dragged into this is because the return of Jesus is the climax of the Christian Message, the Promise of all promises .
A good read of the Bible from A-Z will show you how the Bible is a book of promises . God promised Israel that he will send a Saviour who will save both Jews and Gentiles .His name is Jesus and he died for all that all may get mercy from God.
God promised that he will save his people and give them life eternal . If the promise of Jesus first coming has been fulfilled to the tee by Prophets who wrote about him 400 and 600 Years before his coming then waiting for his second return 2000 years and counting is worth it because the promise will be fulfilled.
Remember , Jesus promised that he will come at time when very few will have faith in his return hence will be a snare to the world .Let us not be caught by the snare but keep watching for his coming our number one priority , seeking FIRST the kingdom of God and his righteousness, then all the things of this world shall be added unto us when he rules the earth for 1000 years.

Why hasn’t the Church disowned ‘endtime’ quacks?

The doctrine that the universe will perish in one huge eschatological Bang is pagan and much older than Christianity.
It dominated the Mediterranean basin throughout classical antiquity. The term eschatology comes from the Greek adjective eschatos, which means “final”.
It refers to the imagined “end-time” event when the dying-and-resurrecting god-man will reappear to lead the “Sons of Light” in an apocalyptic battle against the “Sons of Darkness”.
According to the Dead Sea Scrolls, discovered in 1947, this was how the Essenes — the Habakkukist (proto-Christian) Jews of Qumran — envisaged the “Second Coming” of their “Teacher of Righteousness”.
But the Church has an unassailable authority for it from the god-man himself. Between his resurrection and ascension — according to the evangelist John — Jesus asserts that some of his disciples will still be alive when he returns.
The controversy raised by this statement has never been resolved.
There are three possibilities. One is that the English version is a mistranslation from Syriac (the Aramaic mother tongue of Jesus).
The second is that, if Jesus uttered those words, then history has proved him wrong and Christians must drum up the courage to admit it.
If his disciples were his age-mates and his Second Advent was to precede their deaths, then the advent should occur by the end of the first century AD. Yet, 20 centuries later, it has not occurred.
The best we have seen of it are only poetic dreams, like this one:
Lo, he comes in clouds descending,
Once for favoured sinners slain;
Thousand, thousand saints attending,
Swell the triumph of his train:
Alleluyah, God appears on earth to reign…
But I just cannot accept the surrealism of it. I prefer the third interpretation. It is that Jesus never made that statement. Jesus was an inimitable model of honesty — terribly let down only by the egregious hypocrisy and evil of those who profit by uttering his name in vain — the Church and its priesthood.
The words are likely to have been smuggled into the text by an over-enthusiastic later European convert.
Scholars depict the Italian machismi who founded the Vatican systematically corrupting both testaments to bring them into line with the secular self-interests of Rome’s imperial officials.
One manifestation of it is the Church’s profound silence over the continuing vanity with which individuals all over the world utter Jesus’ name to horrendously disturb the ordinary person’s mind with the promise that the Son of God is coming down tomorrow to bring the world to a catastrophic end.
But this cruelty is not the work of isolated cranks. Eschatology is the entire ideology of both the Vatican and America’s entire evangelism.
Because the Second Coming “is nigh”, Jehovah’s Witnesses and others openly preach that the “Anti-Christ” be killed violently.
And who is the “Anti-Christ”? The answer — the non-Caucasian, the feminist, the pacifist, the homosexual, the “communist”, the Marxist, the working class, the Muslim, the Arab, the Palestinian, the Iranian, the Iraqi, the Afghan, the North Korean — everybody may oppose the present bid by the US corporate family to swallow the world.
That is why the American Church fully supports Washington’s struggle to remove all “weapons of mass destruction” from the “wrong hands” and concentrate them in the hands of the corporate governments in Washington, London and Jerusalem.
Two self-confessed eschatologists, Ronald Reagan and George Bush II, have recently actually enjoyed the privileged access to the world’s most dangerous war device. Mr Reagan actually had his finger on the nuclear button even in the absent-mindedness of Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Yet every year, for 2,000 years, men have predicted the world’s impending disaster. All have proved false.
The question is: Why do so many of you continue to give credit to quacks and con men like America’s Harold Camping? And why does the Church consistently refuse to distance itself from this crime?
